The extraordinary diggings at Ephesus are certainly worth the two hour drive from Bodrum. Tip: start at the top of Ephesus in the late afternoon, and work your way down.

Express yourself at Atami Hotel
After exploring Bodrum, you might visit the lovely Atami Hotel. Set in a private cove, this is a perfect spot to unwind.

You could join a yoga retreat with Anoushka Pleff in June or September, and there is always a plethora of boating activities. Alternatively, you might simply laze around the beach and well-developed gardens. Your hosts are a Turkish-Japanese couple, Atakan and Midori Oztaylan, and their charming daughter, Ebru. The hotel is vast. Hide out and read, play chess, or even tinkle the grand piano, and there is a pool table for aficionados. All the en-suite rooms are comfortable, and the most expensive ones offer a unique, exotic décor. Best of all, the Atami Hotel remains open all year round. Here, not only can you eat a wonderful fusion of Turkish and cosmopolitan fare for breakfast and dinner, you can lunch on Japanese sushi.

Bodrum airport is 42km away, and Bodrum itself is a 23km drive.
