Guide to Jaipur - Part 2

Exorcise: Let go in the markets of the walled city. Shopping is therapy! Below the Hawa Mahal you can haggle your way through glass/lac bangles and cotton material in gorgeous colors. The town is known for its hand dyed cotton and bandini (tie-dye) in an amazing range of shade blends. Walk down Mirza Ismail Road where you can pick up just about any local craft for good rates – block printed bedspreads, handmade paper, blue pottery (tiles, tableware, little doorknobs, soap trays…), and for the stylish you, Soma Shop (5 Jacob Road, Civil Lines), for cheery wrap-around skirts, stoles, tank tops, and pretty accessories including travel bags and jewelry cases. If you want to see artisans at work, visit Tripolia Bazaar. Also pick up baubles in semi precious stones or silver from jewelers in Johari Bazaar. By the time you are done and vividly made over, you’ll be a totally new person ready to take on the world again.
