EXhale: Stay at one of the little guest houses along the lovely Promenade, so you can watch the ocean and sunrise everyday you are there, or go biking along it. Shopping is best in Nehru Street; chock-a-block with boutiques selling at cheap rates. The Sunday Market held here has stalls selling everything from clothing to DVDs. And don’t leave without buying handmade and recycled paper stuff made with pressed flowers, (they have some lovely journals and you really need one now!), incense sticks, pretty candles, and aromatherapy oils, all manufactured by the Ashram’s units. Pondicherry is also famous for its pottery and ceramic objects, which you can pick up anywhere.
You can discard your misery totally with the soothing influence of this place. For a complete itinerary, visit their information center at 40, Goubert Avenue, Pondicherry; www.tourisminpondicherry.com; Email: tic@toursisminpondicherry.com.
Naiya Sivaraj has been traveling since the age of three, bitten by the travel bug because of a family who took her on long summer holidays and a boarding school which took her on two week long trips to exotic places every year. Since then Naiva says she has sought desperately (while growing up) and more calmly now, to explore this beautiful world and learn about her peoples and cultures. She is currently an independent researcher, writer and photographer, and avid book reader.
