Fore Street (288 Fore Street; 207-775-2717) is a wonderful place to EXhale, and certainly to inhale! This renowned restaurant is owned by Sam Hayward, recipient of the James Beard Foundation’s 2004 Best Chef in the Northeast title. The menu changes regularly but always includes an array of fish and meat dishes. (Vegetarian options are slim but available.) Alternately, try Five Fifty-Five (555 Congress Street; 207-761-0555). Owners Steve and Michelle Corry opened this restaurant after a sojourn in Napa Valley, and there is—not surprisingly—a huge wine cellar. Sample the Bangs Island mussels, their signature dish.
Wake up in the morning and treat yourself to a day at the spa. Akari Day Spa (www.akarihairspa.com) offers a broad selection of spa services and packages including a 5-hour pamper session ($250) and a 7-1/2-hour head-to-toe treatment ($450). Aren’t you worth it? Go ahead: breathe.
