Guide to Toronto - Part 2

It's more of a traditional boxing gym, and very open to both men and women. I loved it because it wasn't like a Bally's where you have to be in your most stylish outfit in order to drink a bee pollen smoothie at the juice bar! Very friendly owner and not a pretentious vibe in the place.”

And last but not least, there is always yoga. The Yoga Sanctuary’s College Street location, in the historic Odd Fellows Hall building, was voted the most beautiful yoga studio in Toronto. “It offers drop-in classes, and if you can catch one of the candle-light sessions in the century-old ballroom – they are not to be missed,” notes Elmaleh.

EXplore, and re-energize

At the St. Lawrence Market, you can wander amongst a whole variety of fresh food vendors. Shannon Christner, who’s lived in Toronto for nine years now, raves that “The deli and cheese vendors alone make it worth the trip!” But of course, don't forget to check out the bakery too.

If, however, you find yourself feeling hungry while shopping on Queen’s Street, Margo Purcell, owner of Open to Possibilities in Calgary, recommends Sweet Lulu. “It's inspired by the fast food that you can get on the streets in Asia. It's healthy, it's fast and it's reasonably priced,” says Purcell.

Another must between shops, especially for the sweet tooth, is Dutch Dreams, which is a decadent ice cream shop with an endless selection of toppings. “This is definitely a Toronto staple! ” says Wilson.

In addition to food vendors, the St. Lawrence Market is surrounded with artisan stalls. “The jewelry here is definitely an affordable pick-me-up,” says Christner.

Harrison, on the other hand, swears Toronto’s The Bay. “I know it doesn’t sound glamorous, and certainly not very boutique-like, but I always find great deals and good brands. And the selection is fantastic since there is virtually every major designer.”
